Innervate Partners with The Home Depot Foundation to Support Veterans in Austin

| October 23, 2024 | By

In Austin, Texas, Innervate joined forces with The Home Depot Foundation and Green Doors to elevate and update Treaty Oaks Apartments—a community that provides housing for veterans transitioning out of homelessness.

This event brought together nearly 300 volunteers with one goal: To enhance the living spaces and uplift the lives of the veterans who call Treaty Oaks home.

Transforming Spaces into Homes: A Day of Renovations and Restoration

At the event, hundreds of volunteers worked across multiple projects to refresh the apartment complex and its surrounding areas.

Here’s a quick look at what they were able to achieve:

  • A quiet community victory garden: Volunteers created a new garden space where residents can grow plants and engage with nature.
  • Upgraded furniture and gathering areas: Adirondack chairs, dressers, and outdoor grilling stations were built to create welcoming communal spaces.
  • Fresh landscaping and restoration: Volunteers replaced a gazebo, painted murals, and improved the overall landscaping.
  • An abundance of personal touches! Residents received hand-built dressers to make their rooms feel more like home.

Building Relationships with Veterans Through Practical Service

Throughout the day, volunteers had opportunities to interact with the residents of Treaty Oaks. For many, these moments of personal connection were the most rewarding part of the event.

One veteran proudly shared his artwork and music with volunteers, expressing his gratitude for the changes being made to his home. “It was incredible to see residents sharing their stories and watching their space transform in real time,” an Innervate team member reflected.

The Home Depot Foundation’s Long-Standing Commitment to Supporting Veterans

The Home Depot Foundation is committed to supporting veterans, disaster relief efforts, and skilled trades training. The foundation’s dedication to veterans includes:

  • More than $500 million invested in veteran-focused initiatives since 2011.
  • 60,000+ veteran homes and facilities renovated and improved nationwide.
  • A $750 million commitment toward veteran causes by 2030.

This latest event in Austin raised more than $3.1 million to further the foundation’s mission. Funds will support future projects that offer safe housing, job training, and vital community services for veterans.

Small Acts of Service, Big Changes for the Community

Innervate was honored to both engage and sponsor in this event, with team members working alongside volunteers throughout the day. Whether the volunteers were building furniture or planting gardens, everyone contributed to creating cozy, elevated spaces that truly felt like home for the veterans at Treaty Oaks.

“Being part of this event was a reminder of the power of community,” one Innervate participant shared. “It’s the small, thoughtful touches that help veterans feel welcome and connected again.”
